A glance across the horizon: between the horizon and one's eyes, an expanse of small details, which resembles a void. Denis Riva captures the messages written on the earth by the invisible fingers of the Universe and endows these with the precious sensations of his eyes and the warm and astonishing tones of his heart.
He paints because he believes in the world and in the respect that Nature can teach us; he watches and he sees without neglecting the predatory; he bestows his extremely clear opinions and hides within the same practices that give life to mist: his language is multifaceted, his expressive modus could be compared to that of a quick-change artist. His exhibitions consist of independent details that can be joined together to form a narrative opus that follows the rhythm of the moon and the tides.
Like the most mischievous characters of the legends of the plain, Denis Riva gives life to a multicoloured artistic collection with the purpose of creating reference points to be destroyed immediately after. A perpetual beginning is the heart and nerve-centre of his works. He believes in "never ending to begin every day", a story that will be continued by our children and by our children's children, until the end of time. These are the roots of the unfinished works of the artist. The results are uncertain and may only be completed by the feelings of onlookers who cannot count on any logic pretexts...

Denis Riva lives within his land and he understands its needs so as to speak on its behalf: a gesture that may be compared to the planting of a new tree in a wood that is disappearing. This is the scope of all of his works. Defining him through his works is difficult: for him, the world is an infinite notebook, full of lessons to learn and to be explained to the world.
Denis Riva confronts himself with his mission guided by his own needs of expression. He plays with the wastes of the world that in his hands return to life, not as conventional ready-made items, but as ancient relics to be reused within a home by virtue of their charm and to be thus returned to tradition.
Riva's art is multifaceted. It brings to mind the nature of man and his evolution: man grows but remains the same despite all changes in tastes, desires and appearance. Riva has decided to tell us the story of the world as it is and, at least partly, as it should be.

Pasqua Rosata - The Palio of Cento 2012
|
June 4th and 5th 2012 -
The Palio of Cento takes place on Whit Sunday and celebrates the assault against the castle that was avoided on June 8th (eve of Whit Sunday), 1443, during the siege of the Milanese army of the Visconti family, led by Luigi dal Verme.
According to the legend, the assault was avoided due to the miraculous intervention of the archangel Michael who gave courage and strength to the people of Cento that, exhausted by continuous battles, invoked the help of the Virgin Mary.
